Rana Naved suffered an injury scare today as Sussex skipper Chris Adams admitted he was concerned about over-bowling his star fast bowler.
The Pakistan international took his 100th Championship wicket in only his 18th game against Kent at Canterbury.
But he could only bowl 12 overs in two spells after suffering a slight abdominal strain trying to take a return catch off Matthew Walker.
He briefly returned to the field during the afternoon session but spent the rest of the first day resting and receiving treatment.
Coach Mark Robinson expects him to bowl in Kent's second innings but Rana admitted: "It is quite sore at the moment."
The 29-year-old is already receiving treatment for an abductor muscle injury which needs careful monitoring.
He went into the Kent game having bowled 77 overs in Sussex's first two games, the second of which against Warwickshire ended in an innings defeat.
Adams admitted he will have to monitor carefully the workload of both Rana and Mushtaq Ahmed, who have bowled 64 per cent of Sussex's overs in Championship cricket this season.
He said: "I have to be a bit more strict to try and reduce their workload although they are difficult to get the ball off when they are in rhythm."
