Sussex suffered an early setback in their attempts to wrestle the advantage from Nottinghamshire on the second morning of their Championship clash at Hove.
Luke Wells and Rory Hamilton-Brown both fell cheaply as Sussex reached lunch on 44-2 in reply to Notts’ first innings score of 452.
Stuart Broad made both breakthroughs for the visitors as he bids to prove his fitness ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka next week.
The departure of Wells and Hamilton-Brown swung the momentum back in Nottinghamshire’s favour after Sussex’s bowlers had fought back impressively.
They needed just nine overs to wrap up the Notts innings with the visitors adding only 44 to their overnight score of 408-5.
Matt Hobden removed Samit Patel for 156 as he finished with figures of 3-100 on his Championship debut while Steve Magoffin (4-110) picked up the other four wickets to fall to ensure Sussex claimed maximum bowling points.
