Sussex's problems with the weather this season continued today as the second day of their County Championship with Middlesex was completely washed out.
The umpires made the decision to abandon play for the day without a ball being bowled at 1.10pm following heavy overnight rain which saturated the outfield.
With no play possible on the opening day either the match looks destined to finish in a draw, especially with the forecast for the next two days suggesting further rain.
It is a blow for wicketkeeper Matt Prior who had been hoping to play as a specialist batsman in the match as he steps up his comeback from an Achilles injury.
It also adds to the frustration felt by Sussex who were in strong positions against Lancashire and Durham this season only for rain to disrupt those matches.
