Gus Poyet has added a specialist centre-back to his wanted list.
But he admits a new striker remains his top priority on the eve of the new campaign.
Poyet and his squad are completing preparations for tomorrow’s season-opening Capital One Cup trip to Swindon.
The Seagulls boss has been left with three senior centre-backs after Tommy Elphick ’s move to Bournemouth.
Poyet wants to trim his squad but admits losing Elphick on a permanent deal was not part of those plans.
He said: “We are going to start looking (for a centre-back), we are going to be aware. We had plenty of people offering us centre-halves and we said all time ‘No, we are not looking for that’.
“Now, slowly, we will have to have a look. We don’t want to go back to the situation where we have to play Calde (right-back Inigo Calderon ) at centre-half.
“It’s not a priority but sooner or later we are going to have to get another one.”
Albion trained yesterday boosted by the fact Wayne Bridge had his first 90 minutes for the club in Friday’s 2-2 friendly draw at Crawley.
