Crawley have turned their attentions to other targets after failing to strike a deal with Lewis Grabban.
Reds had agreed a fee with Rotherham for the striker and the move was expected to be rubber-stamped this week only for talks to break down.
Grabban and his representatives met with Crawley’s director of football Steve Coppell on Monday and again on Tuesday but both parties failed to reach an agreement.
It is the second time in the space of four months that Reds have missed out on signing the 24-year-old after the Millers rejected a £100,00 bid in January.
Grabban scored 21 goals for Rotherham last season and new boss Sean O’Driscoll hoped he would become the first signing of his rein.
Crawley are now expected to step up their pursuit of striker James Hayter who was released by Doncaster Rovers last week and worked under O’Driscoll at both the Keepmoat Stadium and Bournemouth.
Meanwhile, former Reds goalkeeper Scott Shearer – who turned down the offer of a new contract last week – appears to be on his way to Rotherham. Shearer is out of contract and is keen to link up with former Crawley boss Steve Evans again instead of accepting an offer from Stevenage.
