New Crawley manager Sean O’Driscoll has promised to give the current squad a chance to prove themselves.

O’Driscoll will be given the funds to bring in transfer targets over the summer and has already identified a number of areas where he wants to strengthen.

But the former Doncaster and Bournemouth boss says those that helped Reds win back to back promotions deserve an opportunity to show what they can do in League One next season.

O’Driscoll said: “There are lots of gaps that need to be filled but it has to be done in a measured way as it is pointless blitzing it.

“I would like to keep what the football club has. I am not here to destroy, I am here to build. They have just won back to back promotions so they must be doing something right so it is a case of being pragmatic.”

Crawley currently have 14 senior players on their books with Michel Kuipers also having been offered a new contract.

O’Driscoll says that the bond developed between that group during the past two seasons is something he wants to protect and that making too many changes could jeopardise it.

He added: “I spoke to Matt Tubbs before I took the job and he said the lads had a great team spirit and that is something I want to keep and improve.

“You can say we will get in X-amount of players but you have got to be careful. The spirit and togetherness among the players is something we need to keep and try to add to.”
