Alan Navarro has admitted he was shocked to be told Albion were letting him go.
But the midfielder believes he can secure a new deal elsewhere – and would love it to be in the Championship.
Navarro has spoken publicly for the first time since his three years with the Seagulls came to an end recently.
He was told he was not being offered a new contract in the days after the season-ending 0-0 draw at Barnsley.
The 30-year-old Liverpudlian admitted: “I was shocked. When you are doing quite well and the manager says you are doing well then you think something is going to come of it.
“Apparently he said I’m the unlucky one.
“It’s one of those things where you think you should have got something and you didn’t.
“But I’m not going to slate the club, I’m not going to slate the gaffer. It’s what happens. It’s part and parcel of football.”
Navarro started 24 Championship games last season and aims to be fixed up with a new club for the start of pre-season training.
He said: “I’ve had two managers ring me already.
“It isn’t a decision I will make straight away but we just had a little chat and they wanted to show their interest in me.
“There’s definitely something promising. I’m going to meet one of the managers and have a chat and we will see how it turns out.
“But it’s not a decision I’m going to make straight away."
