Defender Zoumana Bakayoko is the last man standing from Albion's array of exotic trialists.
The Seagulls hope to have the 19-year-old former Paris St Germain leftback with them for training in Le Havre this week.
Boss Mark McGhee has ruled his other French-based hopefuls out of plans for the new season, along with Australian wideman Dan Severino.
The former Millwall and Piacenza creator failed to grab his chance on Saturday as a young Albion team won 5-2 at Bognor and was given the bad news shortly after the game.
Paris-born Bakayoko looked fit and athletic in his 45-minute run out at Worthing nine days ago. He was not tested defensively but McGhee will have evaluated his work in training.
With young Sam Rents making progress, Bakayoko's arrival would free Joel Lynch to continue in the central defensive berth he has filled so far in pre-season.
McGhee said: "We are still looking, still talking to people and people are still recommending players to us. We will examine who they are and see if it is worth us getting them in."
McGhee was not totally impressed with the display at Bognor.
He said: "Defensively I think we can do a lot better and attacking-wise we had so many opportunities which we didn't even turn into chances, never mind taking those chances. But there was also some good effort and some good performances."
