Glenn Murray scored a super goal for Albion in a 1-1 draw at Tranmere today.
But the visitors were relieved to get a point after being battered by a spirited home side after the break.
Scott Wootton headed home from a free-kick on 87 minutes but the result keeps the Seagulls top.
Murray, sent-off and guilty of a couple of bad misses here last season, unleashed a superb 25-yard volley to put Albion ahead in the 35th minute.
The leaders passed the ball neatly but the goal came via route one as Rovers' defence failed to deal with Casper Ankergren's long kick and Murray's right foot did the rest.
Albion would have been out of sight at the break had Murray's attacking sidekick Ashley Barnes been as deadly.
Barnes shot, then headed, good chances over the bar at 1-0 as he followed up a couple of Elliott Bennett blasts which home keeper Peter Gulacsi could only parry.
Gulacsi, so impressive in Tranmere's midweek win at Bristol Rovers, also held a Barnes curler right on the interval to keep his side in the contest.
The second half was a totally different story.
Enoch Showunmi fired against the post from 20 yards and that seemed to spark Rovers into life.
They created several chances, with Showunmi seeing a point-blank shot deflect wide off Lewis Dunk and the impressive young defender then diverting a cross from same striker against his own post.
There were also shouts for a penalty for a foul by sub Radostin Kishishev before Wootton's close-range strike brought the house down.
