New boy Alex Revell has set his sights on a starting role in League One after wasting little time scoring his first goal for Albion.
Revell struck just 15 minutes after leaving the bench as the Seagulls opened their pre-season campaign with a 4-0 friendly win at Worthing on Saturday.
The target man plucked from non-league side Braintree put away a simple chance created by sidekick Jake Robinson, who later scored twice.
Dean Hammond opened the scoring with a sixth-minute penalty.
Seagulls fans in a crowd of about 1,500 got a first look at several trialists, of whom right winger Martin Brittain shone brightest, but Revell is the only confirmed signing so far and is targeting a place in the team which goes to Rotherham on August 5.
He said: "I wouldn't be here if I wasn't aiming for that.
"There's no point me coming here and not wanting to be in the starting line-up.
"I want to help Brighton get back in the Championship.
"When you see the fans who turned up at the first pre-season game, the ground was packed.
"They know and we know the Championship is where we belong and that is where we want to be."
Albion gave 22 players 45 minutes apiece and have yet to make a decision on whether to keep Newcastle wide man Brittain or a quartet of French hopefuls.
Manager Mark McGhee said: "Worthing made it difficult for us in the first half but I thought the second-half performance was better.
"The movement from the two strikers (Revell and Robinson) and the play particularly on the right-hand side from Martin Brittain was good. Our fitness seemed reasonable so I've got to be fairly pleased."
Albion's home League One clash with Cheltenham Town on Saturday December 9 will now kick off at the later time of 7.45pm.
The game has been put back due to restrictions on Albion hosting home matches in December agreed with the city council.
