Gus Poyet has saluted his matchwinning strikers for firing Albion out of the drop zone.

Recalled Glenn Murray scored four and Nicky Forster was also on target as the Seagulls thrashed fellow strugglers Wycombe 5-2 at Adams Park yesterday.

The win took Albion, who trailed twice, out of the bottom four on goals scored.

Poyet said: “I need to be honest, I think they won the game for the team.

“Nicky and Glenn, with their performance, how they got together, their passing, their ability to score.

“That is what you expect from your strikers. Not every game of course but the whole team today has got to give credit to the two strikers. You can’t ask for more.

“On Boxing Day we didn’t produce anything for the strikers, this time we created many chances.

“When you have that quality up front you know they are going to score. I have no doubt about Glenn. We have to use him.”

Poyet also praised an outstanding midfield display by Gary Dicker, back in action after a one-game ban.

He added: “I think Gary was, on the ball, the best player on the pitch by far, no doubt.

“The next best one was not even close.”

The Albion boss played down end-of-match scenes which saw substitutes Gary Hart and Adam Virgo throw their shirts to the travelling fans.

Asked if they were saying farewell ahead of the January transfer window, he said: “If that is why this happened it’s news to me.

“I think it was because we won.

“The fans were fantastic and they deserve to take one or two shirts home!”

Poyet expects to make decisions in the next two days over Peter Brezovan and Gavin Hoyte, whose short term contract and loan deal respectively are about to expire.”
