Albion boss Gus Poyet admitted his side lacked quality in their 0-0 draw at home to Leyton Orient.
Poyet had targeted full points from festive fixtures aginst the O's and Wycombe.
In the end, the Seagulls were grateful to two Peter Brezovan saves and the width of their right-hand post to emerge from this one with a point.
Brezovan saved well from Scott McGleish and JJ Melligan, the latter also seeing a mis-directed cross come back off the far post.
Albion remain in the drop zone, three points adrift of Orient.
Poyet said: "We were convinced we could win the game.
"For different reasons it didn't happen.
"We are a little bit disappointed as a team.
"We knew that, even though the players gave everything, we didn't really dominate the game and didn't create too many chances.
"We'll take the clean sheet maybe, to be positive, and think about Monday."
Poyet added: "It doesn't matter how much we do, we create, we run, we tackle, we press, it's not enough.
"We need to do that extra bit.
"I think today that extra bit lacking was in terms of quality, not in terms of determination."
Poyet had no complaints over Andrew Crofts' dismissal on 70 minutes for two yellow cards.
The skipper became the first Albion player to be sent-off since Poyet's arrival but the eighth of the season.
