Elliott Bennett knows what Christmas present he wants to hand out to Albion’s strikers.
A few more goalscoring chances like the one he gift-wrapped for Nicky Forster with a super right wing cross at Swindon would do just fine in putting the Seagulls back on course.
Albion’s highly-rated right winger reckoned his part in Forster’s close range header was the highlight of his cold, frustrating, pointless trip to Wiltshire.
He delivered the party line when asked his thoughts on the Leyton Orient and Wycombe games. Two games which can and must be won, he said.
Fair enough. There is not much more to say at this stage.
But if his delivery can be as devastating as it was at the end of that memorable, multi-pass move at the County Ground, the Seagulls could be in for a few festive points.
The former Wolves flyer said: “We’ve scored better individual goals but as a team that was probably the best.
“We kept the ball for I don’t know how many passes and for me to set the goal up, that’s just what I wanted really.
“Fozzy was in there doing what he always does.
“I work on that a lot. When we have little 11-v-11s in training I try to put balls in the box and do what I’d do in a game.
“The gaffer puts on crossing and finishing sessions which helps as well.
“We do a lot of different things, attacking and defending.”
He added: “I think I did all right against Colchester, then a bit better on Saturday.
“Setting the goal up was the highlight of my day.
“But it’s all about the team. We need to start winning games.
“It’s all right saying we played well and didn’t win but we need wins to keep us in the league.
“We want to be pushing for top half of the table and play-offs.”
Bennett admits he expected to be in those more lofty league positions when he joined from Wolves a few weeks into the season.
He still struggles to work out why Albion are in the relegation zone.
The 21-year-old said: “When I first came I looked at the players we’ve got here and I still think the same. We shouldn’t be where we are. All the players know that.
“If you look at the quality of players we have got in our squad we are definitely top seven or so, no doubt about it “Some of the football we play at times proves that.
“We got beat by Charlton. I wouldn’t say they played better football than us but they scored two goals and didn’t concede.
“That’s what wins football matches and that’s what we need to improve on. Be better in both boxes, more clinical.”
Which takes us right back to shivering Swindon and Gus Poyet’s post-match assertions that Albion must improve in both penalty areas and that their next two games are must-win.
The first of those points is indisputable, the second less so if we are talking purely in terms of avoiding relegation.
But what is certain is Albion and their fans need a lift after five defeats in six league games.
“Orient’s a massive game.” Bennett agreed. “If we beat them we go level on points and everything looks a little bit better.
“We’ve played Wycombe a couple of times already this season and I think we are a better team than them. We should be looking for six points from the next two games really.”
