Two goals in three second-half minutes condemned Crawley to a 3-0 defeat at Luton Town in tonight's Blue Square premier tussle.
Reds gave debuts to all three of their deadline day signings with defender Dominic Collins and midfielder Kieran Djilali both starting and Adam Barton coming on for the last 11 minutes.
The visitors found themselves under the cosh for much of the first half but appeared to have weathered the storm when Luton made a 38th-minute breakthrough.
Goalkeeper Nick Jordan appeared to have been impeded as he came to claim a cross under pressure from Adam Newton and George Pilkington coolly slotted the ball into an empty net from 15 yards.
Lewis Killeen had Reds' two best chances either side of the break but the contest was settled midway through the second half by a double strike from the Hatters.
Pilkington nodded in his second from Kevin Nicholls' corner after 62 minutes and three minutes later Tom Craddock fired home from close range following a goalmouth scramble.
The consolation for boss Steve Evans, who had sold striker Jamie Cook to Oxford earlier in the day was the performance of Collins and Djilali and the knowledge that his squad will look stronger once some of his six injured players are able to return.
