Battling Eastbourne picked up two precious points at Coventry last night and were left thinking about one that got away.

Eagles drew 45-45 after home star Chris Harris beat Lewis Bridger and Simon Gustafsson in a re-run heat 15.

The points take Eastbourne seven clear of bottom-placed Belle Vue and three ahead of Poole, who were hammered 55-40 at Swindon.

Eagles led 36-30 after 11 races but the match turned in heat 12 when Daniel Nermark was taken from the track by ambulance after crashing with Ben Barker.

Nermark, only riding as a reserve switch for out-of-sorts Ricky Kling, was excluded and Coventry took a 5-1 off Davey Watt in the re-run.

Bridger spoiled Harris’s unbeaten record in heat 13 as Eagles grabbed a 4-2 but Coventry were level with a 5-1 in the penultimate race. Eagles will now await an update on Nermark, the Swedish reserve who has impressed since arriving on loan.

They trailed by two early on but took charge with 5-1s in heats four and five.

Eagles: Bridger 11+1 (5), Gustafsson 9+3 (5), Dryml 9 (4), Nermark 6+1 (4), Woodward 5 (4), Watt 4+1 (4), Kling 1 (3)
