Assistant manager Paul Raynor insists that a 7am training session can help put Crawley’s season back on track.

Boss Steve Evans and Raynor had their squad on the training pitch at the crack of dawn last Sunday after their good start to the season came to a shuddering halt with a 4-1 defeat at home to Gateshead.

More hard work has followed this week and Raynor expects Grays Athletic to feel the backlash when they arrive at the Broadfield tomorrow.

Raynor said: “It was a long night on Saturday because we made the players watch the DVD and we were back in early on Sunday.

“I think it re-focussed a few minds. The players should be under no illusions that the level of performance we saw against Gateshead was unacceptable.

“On the back of three good victories it was very disappointing. Perhaps subconsciously the players swtiched off. We conceded a sloppy first goal and the two penalties hit us at bad times.

“But there is no doubt we didn’t play with that tempo you associate with Crawley sides. The aggression, passion and enthusiam was missing.

“The players let themselves, the club and the supporters down. We can’t turn back the clock but I can assure everyone that there will be a response tomorrow.”

Raynor has not ruled out further transfer activity before the window closes as Reds continue to battle with a lengthening injury list.

Skipper Adam Quinn, missing since the friendly against Spurs three weeks ago, is still not fit to return because of a calf problem and Chris Giles has picked up a back problem.

Meanwhile, Reds' defender Sam Rents has been called into the England squad for next month's C international against Hungary.
