John Sullivan is loving life at Millwall – even though he may have to wait a while again for his chance.

Sullivan became accustomed to the role of goalkeeping understudy to Michel Kuipers at Albion.

He now finds himself in a similar situation after the Seagulls released him in May and he signed for the Lions.

David Forde will be hard to budge. Forde, an ever-present in League One last season, has not conceded at the same level this term for over five hours, but Sullivan is content to bide his time.

"It's a brilliant club," he said. "Obviously I was disappointed to leave Brighton, because I love the club, but I had to get my head around it and get myself fixed up.

"It's good to be at a club like Millwall and it is going very well. I played in first team games pre-season. The manager said he has been pleased with me and I've just been on the bench.

"David Forde is a very good keeper and he is doing very well but I am happy here. I am being patient, I will hopefully get my chance and just take it."

Sullivan, after progressing through the ranks, made 17 appearances for Albion, including the 4-1 mauling of Millwall at Withdean last November.

Of the numerous players released three months ago, he is the only one to have stayed at an equivalent standard.

"Even at 21 I have seen a few things and you can't be surprised by anything in football," Sullivan said.

"People said I'd had a good season and was doing well, so obviously I was hoping for a contract. I am not going to lie about that.

"Maybe I was a bit surprised not to get one but the manager obviously made that decision. That's just football.

"I still come home a lot and since then everyone has been brilliant with me."
