BOSS Russell Slade has called for maximum commitment from Glenn Murray while he remains an Albion player.

The unsettled striker came under fire from a group of fans following his third substitute appearance in as many matches in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Brentford.

They berated Murray when he re-appeared for the warm down after the final whistle.

Assistant manager Dean White had to act as peacemaker, calming the supporters by speaking to them.

It later emerged fans were upset that Murray, who asked for a transfer in the summer, did not acknowledge them when the game ended.

Slade was unaware of the incident, as he was in the dressing room at the time, but he was satisfied with Murray’s second-half contribution.

“What the fans will demand, and what is absolutely spot-on, is that when he puts on a blue and white shirt and has to come on he performs and he gives 100 per cent,” Slade said. “I think that is what is required.

“I think he did. He went on there to try and do something. Ultimately, if the boy wants to leave the football club then he needs to be playing and performing.”

Slade was happy with Albion’s first point of the season and first at bogey side Brentford for 14 years.

“I thought we created the better opportunities,” he said. “Michel (Kuipers) didn’t really have a save to make and I thought we defended very well against a pretty direct side.

“It wasn’t easy to get the ball down but when we had pockets of play and used Dean Cox in the hole we played some good football. I thought we were well worth the point, if not three.

“We have got a problem not getting a goal at the moment but hopefully that will get resolved."

Left-back Jake Wright is expected to miss tomorrow night’s trip to Huddersfield after limping off in the second half with a hamstring injury.
