Albion are planning more signings before the transfer window closes.
The window slams shut on September 1 and the Seagulls hope to have another two or three permanent deals in place by then to add to the ten signings made so far.
Assistant manager Dean White said: “We are looking at more business, that is our aim.
“We are still looking for two or three players. We have been quite close but it hasn’t quite happened at the moment.
“For us to be a force we know we have to bring in more players and improve the squad but good players have lots of options.
“The players we are after have got clubs and are under contract. We are just trying to get them to come to us.”
All of the new signings to date have been permanent, with the exception of Matt Thornhill, who is on a long-term loan from Nottingham Forest.
White said: “We feel it is much better for us to have permanent players that we can work with and nurture ourselves, rather than getting someone in who is perhaps not quite fit because they haven’t been playing first team football.
“What happens then is that we get them fit, they start playing well for us and suddenly their club calls them back and we have to start again.”
The Seagulls have no fresh injury concerns in the quest for their first goals and points of the season at promoted Brentford tomorrow.
They are preparing for a contrasting test following Tuesday’s 3-0 exit from the Carling Cup against a slick Swansea side.
“Brentford play a totally different game,” said White. “They hit the front and look for balls off the front to play from there, so you cannot really compare the two teams.
“It will be a decent atmosphere in a tight ground and a high tempo game. We’ll have to match them physically, then hopefully our football will come out.
“We have to go there in the right frame of mind, expecting a battle, because it will be.”
