Adam Virgo believes lessons learned at Swansea can help Albion kick-start their season.
The Seagulls head to Brentford on Saturday on the back of two defeats and still looking for their first goal of the campaign.
They were convincingly beaten 3-0 by the slick Championship side in Tuesday’s Carling Cup tie at the Liberty Stadium.
But skipper Virgo says Swansea proved playing the brand of football Albion want to play can be successful.
He said: “Swansea were probably the best footballing team I have played against in a long time. They tried to play the game in the right way and if that’s the way the manager wants to play I think they are in for a very successful season.
“On the other side of it, it is a very good lesson for all of us to learn. The game can be played that way and the formation they use is similar to ours.
“We were beaten by the better team but hopefully we can take some positives from it. I would be very surprised if we come across a team that plays like that in League One.”
Virgo insists it is no time to panic but hopes Albion can get things going away to promoted Brentford, who won at Carlisle on the opening day.
He said: “It is early days but two defeats is still not good. We are still trying to find that first clean sheet and still trying to find that first goal so there is a lot for us to improve upon on the training ground and the gaffer has made that very clear to us.
“Hard work got us out of the situation last season and we will need to work hard again.
“We have got new players and they will take time to settle in but we have a massive game on Saturday against Brentford and, hopefully, it will be a game similar to the way we want to play it and we can get our first win of the season.
“As captain I have got to gather up the chaps. We were disappointed at Swansea but we were more disappointed (against Walsall) on Saturday.”
Virgo says fans can play their part, too, at Griffin Park.
He added: “I would like to thank those who went to Swansea. It was a long journey for them to make and we appreciated it. Hopefully we can get a good crowd at Brentford on Saturday and we can give them the first win of the season.”
