Albion boss Russell Slade has admitted there is a lot of work to do after a convincing exit from the Carling Cup.
They were out-classed by Championship side Swansea at the Liberty Stadium last night, the Welshmen winning 3-0.
Goals by skipper Garry Monk and Stephen Dobbie (two) sent Paulo Sousa’s side through to round two and gave Slade plenty of food for thought.
He said: “We were deservedly beaten. In the first period I thought they played some really slick football, a real quality performance. They deserved to be 1-0 up at the very least.
“In the second period, for ten minutes just after half time, I thought we looked a little bit more interested in trying to get a goal.
“It wasn’t to be and they hit us on the counter. The second goal effectively put paid to us trying to get back into the game.
“I have learnt a lot from it. You could see the gap between the Championship and League One and we have got a lot of work to do.
“They had threats all over the field and the movement stands out. They get between you and then they are very dangerous.”
Slade believes he will have no problem lifting his players for Saturday’s trip to promoted Brentford, where the Seagulls will be seeking their first points of the season.
“That won’t be a problem,” he said. “We are back to the League business. The Carling Cup is out of the way. We move on.”
