Albion's interest in the Carling Cup ended with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat away to an impressive Swansea side.
Russell Slade's men were second best throughout the evening as they went down to Gary Monk's opener and a brace from Stephen Dobbie.
It could have been more but Mark Gower produced an amazing miss in the first half, then Michel Kuipers made fine saves from Dobbie and substitute Guillem Bauza after the interval.
The Championship side broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when Alan Tate headed Andrea Orlandi's free-kick against Kuipers' left-hand post and fellow centre back Monk pounced to fire home the rebound.
Jake Wright was booked for his foul which led to the free-kick and then given a final warning towards the end of the half before being withdrawn at the interval after a torrid evening chasing Swansea's livewire winger Nathan Dyer.
Dobbie was denied by Kuipers on 59 minutes but wrapped up victory a minute later. His header from Gower's cross was blocked by Andrew Whing in the six-yard box but Kuipers was already committed to a save to his left and Dobbie prodded home the loose ball from close range.
Victory was rounded off three minutes into stoppage time when Bauza crossed from the right and Dobbie produced a great bit of skill to lift the ball over Kuipers before tapping into an empty net.
