Albion's injury worries up front have deepened with Liam Dickinson joining the other four strikers as a fitness concern.

Dickinson missed training yesterday with an ankle knock sustained in Saturday’s opening League One defeat at home to Walsall.

He is in the 20-man squad which has travelled to South Wales for tonight’s Carling Cup first round tie at Swansea and will be assessed after a light training session today.

Nicky Forster (knee) and Glenn Murray (groin) both came off the bench in the second half against Walsall.

Gary Hart could be out for another fortnight following the removal of a toe cyst.

Craig Davies, donning the dreaded all-pink strip yesterday awarded to the worst trainer, has not played since hurting a knee in the challenge which led to his red card in the friendly at Torquay a fortnight ago.

Swansea have problems of their own. Centre half Ashley Williams, who headed them into the lead in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Leicester, and midfielder Shaun MacDonald are on international duty with Wales.

Teenage playmaker Joe Allen was supposed to join MacDonald in the Welsh under-21s but he suffered a hamstring injury at Leicester.

Boss Russell Slade is still anticipating a stern challenge from Albion's Championship hosts.

He said: “They are a very polished side. They dominated the game in the first half at Leicester and we know what a good side Leicester were in our league last season.

“It’s a tough fixture but I am looking forward to a really good test for us. I enjoyed my last visit there (2-1 with Yeovil) and we want to go as far as we can in the competition.

“It’s another game for us to get used to each other and the more competitive games we have to get that bonding and chemistry in the side the better.”
