Albion's fate is still in their own hands after a battling draw at Huddersfield.
The Seagulls came from behind twice to draw 2-2 and secure the point which keeps them two points above Carlisle in the final relegation spot.
Andy Booth gave Huddersfield the lead in the 16th minute in controversial circumstances. Tommy Fraser thought he had headed the ball off the line and was booked for protesting.
Substitute Calvin Andrew made amends for an earlier miss by heading Albion level from a Dean Cox corner in the 38th minute but the home side took the lead again 12 minutes after the break.
Lloyd Owusu gave the ball away carelessly and Huddersfield made him pay the ultimate price as Danny Cadamarteri set up Michael Collins to slot home.
Albion equalised again nine minutes later as Huddersfield failed to clear a long throw from Andrew Whing. Cox shot into the ground and the ball bounced up for Owusu to head home from close range.
With Carlisle drawing at Cheltenham it means Albion are two points above the drop zone ahead of their final game against Stockport at the weekend. Northampton's win puts them above Albion on goal difference with a game in hand while Yeovil's draw at Tranmere means they are two points above the Seagulls.
