Crawley have paid a heavy price for their punishing end-of-season schedule.

They could be without up to six players at relegation-threatened Grays Athletic tonight after a spell of four games in a week took its toll.

Jake Wright, Simon Weatherstone and Thomas Pinault are unlikely to play again this season while Dannie Bulman (ankle), Isaiah Rankin (hamstring) and Jamie Cook (hamstring) all picked up knocks in Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Barrow.

Their fitness will be assessed today but assistant manager Paul Raynor admits his side are running on empty.

In the space of six days they made trips to Torquay, Kettering and Barrow as well as playing at home to Stevenage.

The squad made Saturday’s 690 mile round trip to Barrow in a day, leaving Sussex at 6.55am and returning at 11.40pm.

Raynor said: “We were dead on our feet in the last 20 minutes at Barrow but even then we deserved to win the game, it’s just that the ridiculous schedule took its toll. It has been a very hard seven days.”

Reds are determined not to let the season fizzle out and Raynor says they have a duty to the other strugglers to field their strongest possible side tonight against a Grays side just two points clear of the relegation zone.

He added: “We could have coasted after losing to Stevenage but the performances in the last two games, both of which we deserved to win, showed that we are still giving it absolutely everything at it will be the same tonight.”
