Russell Slade believes Albion can grind their way to safety.
The Seagulls ground out a 1-0 win at Colchester today, thanks to Lloyd Owusu's 57th-minute header, and their boss admits that could be the way of things over the remaining weeks of the season.
Although the match was by no means pretty, Slade said: "I don't care if they are a grind.
"They're going to be a grind. There will be more grinds but that's how it's going to be.
"We've got to make sure we don't concede and that we come in 0-0 at half-time or we come in 1-0 up.
"That's how games are in this league and you've got to be prepared to do the nitty gritty."
Albion have now picked up six points in the past week and this result was a timely boost after Saturday's depressing home defeat by Swindon.
Slade said: "The only way to get over a disappointment, and this is what I said to the players after the Swindon game, is to bounce back with a win and roll your sleeves up.
"That's exactly what we did today.
"We didn't start the game particularly well. They changed their system and put three midfielders in there so I changed again to give Dean Cox a little bit of room out on the side.
"He found a little bit of room and we settled down somewhat.
"The second half was a terrific performance. We should have gone on to get a second or third to make it a little bit more confortable but we're grateful for the three points."
