Albion missed a great chance to ease relegation fears when they conceded three goals in a crazy 11-minute spell today.
The Seagulls went down 3-2 at home to rivals Swindon, who now go nine points clear of their beaten hosts.
Adam Virgo's close range strike after Gary Dicker headed a corner across goal gave them a half-time lead.
Swindon were level 75 seconds after the re-start as defender Gordon Greer struck from close range.
Three minutes later the Robins were in front, Billy Paynter scoring from the rebound after Michel Kuipers had parried a Simon Cox drive.
Cox added the third in the 58th minute after Anthony McNamee's near post cross picked out his run.
Albion huffed and puffed in response but did not get back into the game until the 90th minute when Dicker guided home a precise Gary Hart cross.
Crewe's draw at home to Hartlepool leaves Albion, who go to Colchester on Monday, are six points from safety with five games to go.
