Albion's League One survival bid received a boost with a late-goal for ten-man Oldham at Carlisle today.
Neil Eardley equalised a minute from time with a 30-yard free-kick after Daniel Jones had been sent-off for conceding a penalty just before the break.
Michael Bridges put Carlisle ahead from the resulting spot-kick but they are now only six points ahead of Albion and have played two games more.
Northampton lost their game in hand 1-0 at Bristol Rovers to remain three points above the Seagulls.
Yeovil won 2-0 at home to Millwall to move nine points clear of Albion, having played a match more.
