Albion boss Russell Slade has set his side a target of three wins and a draw from their last six matches to beat the drop.

The Seagulls go into tomorrow’s Withdean showdown against fellow strugglers Swindon on 39 points and Slade believes 49 will be enough for League One survival.

“Of course we can do it but it’s not going to be easy,” he said. “We have got 18 points to play for, I think ten may well be enough.

“That is the sort of target we need to be looking for if we are going to be safe.”

Swindon’s visit in a favourable looking run-in for Albion is followed by a trip to mid-table Colchester on Monday.

The penultimate home game on April 18 is against Oldham, who are ninth but not in contention for the play-offs.

Then Seagulls complete the campaign against three more teams with nothing but pride to play for.

They play their game in hand at Bristol Rovers, the last away fixture is at Huddersfield and they finish at home to Stockport.

Tuesday’s make-or-break 2-1 victory at doomed Hereford has lifted morale in the camp.

Slade said: “I don’t care what club you are at, if you win a match it changes the environment to a certain extent.

“Everyone is a little bit bubblier and wanting to go out and train that little bit earlier, wanting to put that little bit more in. Winning matches changes everything in this game.

“Hereford keeps us alive and fighting. We have got a massive game again tomorrow and there are six games now which are all vitally important to us. If we can get three points then maybe we are back in the fight.”

Victory over Swindon will have the dual benefit of hauling Albion to within three points of Danny Wilson’s side with a match in hand.

“He will consider that they are not quite safe yet and perhaps need another win and a point, so Danny and his team will not be on holiday,” Slade warned.

“He has been around the block and I am expecting them to deliver a professional performance.”
