Yasin Ayari says Albion must be more ruthless after they saw two Premier League points slip away.
The Seagulls have dropped 12 points this term from leading positions following the 1-1 draw with Southampton.
They have also come back to claim eight points in matches where they have trailed.
Ayari, who started in midfield, said: “Of course we want to win every game but we learn from every game and what we can do better.
“This was a lesson we needed to learn.
“This is the Premier League and you need to punish opponents when you can.
“When we get 1-0, we need to do 2-0, 3-0.
“We need to be together a bit more, be more aggressive.”
Ayari said the half-time message was to go for the kill after Kaoru Mitoma had headed them in front.
He added: “We were 1-0 up and I think we had most of the chances and we controlled the game well.
“When we came in at half-time we felt good, the only thing we wanted to do was to go out and score the second goal, the third goal and continue.
“They are a good team, they are a tough team.”
Ayari’s early exit with Sweden recently has not affected his club football and he appeared to take another knock late in Friday’s game.
He said: “I’m good. I just have some knocks here and there.
“It is a tough league and you always get some tackles here and there.”
