Fabian Hurzeler is still not happy about the second yellow card for Carlos Baleba at Bournemouth.
But it has given him a decision to make in midfield as his side host Southampton.
Baleba serves a one-game ban after his dismissal at the Vitality Stadium.
Mats Wieffer went on as a sub in a defensive midfield role soon after the incident and earned praise from his head coach.
He would appear the most obvious like-for-like replacement for Baleba.
Albion could also opt to start Matt O’Riley, who has twice gone on as sub of late.
Hurzeler has confirmed O’Riley is now ready to start.
At the back, Lewis Dunk is available for selection.
While Jan Paul van Hecke and Igor have formed a good partnership, Hurzeler’s comments appeared to indicate he would bring his captain back into the side.
The most obvious call would that is for Igor.
Elsewhere, full-back and goalkeeper positions seem settled and it is hard to imagine Hurzeler will alter the attacking quartet who troubled Bournemouth.
At the same time, there must also be options off the bench.
Hurzeler spoke about his attacking situation ahead of the Saints game.
He said: “Offensively we always have the ability and the quality to score goals, because we have a big squad, especially when we see our offensive players. We have different types of players. We have Evan (Ferguson), a target player.
“We have Joao (Pedro), we have Danny (Welbeck) who is for me a hybrid player. We have on the wings different opportunities with Kaoru (Mitoma), with Simon (Adingra), with (Yankuba) Minteh, Solly March when he comes back, (Brajan) Gruda, Georginio (Ruttee).
“So there are a lot of opportunities and this gives us a great selection where I can choose and this gives us also a competition between each other.
“They need to be ready to work hard for their place.”
Minteh and Tariq Lamptey are available for places on the bench.
Jack Hinshelwood misses out again, although Hurzeler said: “I’m sure he will be back soon so the issue is not that big.”
Ferdi Kadioglu is a doubt.
Possible Albion XI: Verbruggen; Veltman, van Hecke, Dunk, Estupinan; Wieffer, O’Riley; Rutter, Joao Pedro, Mitoma; Welbeck.
