Fabian Hurzeler will meet the referee who sent him off when Albion return to the Amex on Friday.

Rob Jones has been appointed to the middle for the home fixture against Southampton.

He showed red to Hurzeler, opposite number Nuno Espirito Santo and Morgan Gibbs-White on his previous visit to the stadium as the Seagulls drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest.

Tempers flared when Jones initially signalled a fair tackle by Gibbs-White on Joao Pedro before then producing the second yellow.

Hurzeler stepped momentarily on to the pitch and was shown red – but not subsequently handed a touchline ban.

In total, Jones showed eight yellows and a red to players that afternoon.

He has produced 72 yellows and four reds in 14 fixtures across a range of competitions, including Europe.

Albion fans might recall him taking charge of the 1-0 win at home to Aston Villa last season.

He refereed Wolves’ win at Fulham last weekend and recently took the high-profile Old Trafford contest between Manchester United and Chelsea.

IS JOAO PEDRO BRAZIL'S NEXT BIG THING?

Jones refereed The New Saints in the Europa League in August but has yet to have the middle in a match involving the old Saints in the Premier League this term.

He was in charge of Albion v Southampton three seasons ago as the visitors came from two down to draw 2-2.

Jarred Gillett will have VAR duties for the second successive game at the Amex.

He was also assisting from Stockley Park when Manchester City were defeated recently.

Stuart Attwell, whose second yellow for Carlos Baleba was such a talking point at Bournemouth, has been given the middle at Chelsea v Aston Villa.

The full officiating team for Albion v Southampton is as follows.

Referee: Rob Jones Assistants: Neil Davies, Nick Hopton. Fourth official: John Busby. VAR: Jarred Gillett. Assistant VAR: Stuart Burt.
