Rachel McLauchlan has been happy to bide her time with Albion - in more ways than one.

The pay-off is starting to come now after she opened her WSL account with a fine finish at the Amex and helped secure three more points.

The Scotland international was one of many summer signings when she arrived from Rangers.

She did not get straight into the team but has been a big part of tense home wins over Leicester and West Ham.

That included the opening goal against the Hammers and then a carefully chosen pass to tee up Kiko Seike.

McLauchlan told The Argus: “I have really enjoyed it. The girls have made it really easy.

“Coming into a new team can sometimes be a bit daunting but it is a really good group here.

“I am loving playing for Dario and the coaching staff and really enjoying it.

“Hopefully that can continue.

“I have been trying to bide my time. It is a very competitive squad, obviously, and the girls who have been in have done really well.

“It is just about waiting for my time and hopefully I do well when I get that.

“I think I am learning a lot. It’s really good and that is exactly why I wanted to come down here and experience a lot.

“I wanted to develop my kind of game.

“I’m a player who still wants to learn a lot and, under Dario and the coaching staff, I am doing that and really enjoying it.

“You can see the standard of the league is very high at the moment.

“All teams know it is going to be a very competitive game and that is exactly what I wanted.

“I look forward to every game each weekend.”

Albion have shown us their best football in games so far but it feels like we are seeing it in intervals.

Asked what was good against West Ham, and what could be improved on, McLauchlan said: “There are definitely moments in that game where we can play a lot better.

“We made it a bit scrappy and maybe did not play at our best.

“We need to learn how to do certain movements better, maybe, certain things on the ball.

“We definitely can learn a lot from that game.

“But the main positive is we got three points and that is the biggest thing to come away from it with.

“We started quite well, especially in the second half when we got into a bit of a flow and got that second goal.

“But we just let them get back into it a little bit.

“We still had every belief we could go on and win it but thankfully we managed to get the win.”

McLauchlan’s goal set them en route and it was a clever finish curled around a defender and inside the far post.

Again, she bided her time - just taking an extra second this time.

She said: “I think I just had a bit of time so I cut in.

“I know that bottom corner would probably be free if I just managed to get it there so, thankfully, the left foot worked and off it went.

“There were a few players in the way of the near post and I saw that far bottom corner.

“So as soon as I cut in, I knew that space would re-open.”

Albion’s Maisie Symonds, who filled an unexpected centre-back role against West Ham, has been called up for England under-23s as they travel to Norway before taking on Sweden at Doncaster Rovers in Euro qualifiers during the forthcoming international window.

Meanwhile Michelle Agyemang and Lily Dent have been included in the England under-19 group for games in the first round of European Championship qualification in Poland against the hosts, Italy and Turkey between November 27 and December 3.
