Bolivia went to extreme lengths to try and stop Julio Enciso as he saved a point for Paraguay.
The Albion forward struck in added time to secure a 2-2 draw in a World Cup qualifier.
He later spoke about the importance of the result and the support of head coach Gustavo Alfaro.
Enciso ran at defenders on the Paraguay left with time running out and his side 2-1 down in an increasingly bad-tempered affair.
At that point, a spectator sent a second matchball on to the pitch.
A Bolivia player then kicked the second ball, not out of play but towards the path in which Enciso was dribbling.
The Seagulls star was clearly unaware as managed to continue on his path inside a defender as the extra ball rolled just behind him.
He went on to fire home a sizzling finish across the keeper.
Uruguayan referee Andres Matonte ruled the second ball did not affect the play and therefore allowed the goal to stand.
Albion were involved in a similar incident at Leeds two season ago, when the home side scored from a corner while there was another ball on the pitch.
Ex-referee Dermot Gallagher told Sky Sports on that occasion: "It was applied correctly, because does it interfere with play or does it cause a problem to the players? The answer is no.”
