Matt O'Riley has told Albion they should be aiming high – like his old club Celtic.
The summer signing marked his Premier League debut with the winner against champions Manchester City.
O’Riley has been busy settling into his surroundings and studying how the Seagulls play after his first appearance was ended early by an ankle injury.
And he is convinced of the potential at the Seagulls.
He said: “I don’t like sitting eighth in the table.
“I’ve just come from Celtic so of course I’m used to a place where they win all the time.
“But the intention should always be to be as high up the table as you can. I don’t see why not.
“People look at teams like City and Liverpool and think they are expected to win it, but they are just people who are good at football. Why can’t we be people who are good at football?”
O’Riley, who formerly played for MK Dons and Fulham, is enjoying a first taste of the Premier League.
He said: “It’s definitely a big change. But, at the same time, I think the demand to win here is still high and the intention is to win and the expectation too, from everyone.
“The manager wants us to keep pushing the limits and challenging the top teams and we will try to do that.”
