Danny Welbeck says Albion would be better prepared to take on Europe second time around.

And he would love that to be next season.

The Seagulls’ top scorer has spoken about his ambitions for the club, their current campaign and even England and Manchester United links.

He was frustrated they could not extend their debut Europa League campaign last term but is confident the club will be better equipped should they return to such stages.

At the launch of the American Express Shop Small campaign, he told The Argus: “We’d be more experienced when that comes around next time.

“Hopefully we can do that sooner rather than later “Obviously some players were playing in Europe for the first time and it’s different.

REMEMBER THESE BRIGHTON COMEBACKS AT THE AMEX?

“You’ve got two games a week. How do you handle getting yourself ready for two games a week, not just one game a week.

“Also the club to know that, obviously, injuries are part and parcel of the game, but the squad was really light.

“It was so unfortunate with injuries but it was really difficult because it was players getting churned out every three days and it’s not always easy to remain fresh, to keep that same mentality and to be consistent twice a week.”

Welbeck is aware he is being touted by some observers for an England recall when Thomas Tuchel takes charge with a view to the next World Cup.

But he said: “All I’m thinking about is Brighton and doing the best I can to help get as high as the table as possible.

“I want to have an impact on the pitch. The rest sorts itself out.”

Danny Welbeck is supporting the American Express Shop Small campaign, which encourages the nation to champion their local high street. Between now and 7 December 2024, American Express is calling on its Cardmembers to ‘Champion Small’ by nominating their favourite small businesses to give them the chance of winning one of ten £10,000 business grants. Cardmembers who nominate will also be in with the chance to win £1,000 for themselves in statement credit. For more information visit, go.amex/championsmall2024
