Alexis Mac Allister said he was happy for his old club after Albion beat Manchester City.

The result at the Amex helped Liverpool open a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League by beating Aston Villa 2-0.

Mac Allister was interviewed on the pitch at Anfield after the game by TNT Sports’ Jules Breach, a Seagulls supporter who made sure events earlier in the evening were mentioned.

Goals from substitutes Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley – a successor the Argentina star in Albion’s midfield – sent the champions to a 2-1 defeat.

Jules asked Mac Allister: “As former Brighton player, your old club did you a bit of a favour coming into this game - did you know the result before your game kicked off?”

The Liverpool man replied: “Yes, I did know. We were watching the game.

“Happy for Brighton. As you know, I have a very special feeling for them and really grateful.

“At the same time, they are in a very good moment, they won against one of the best teams in the world right now.

“Happy for them but we are not thinking about other teams.”

As he left the pitch, Mac Allister signed an autograph for a youngster who said: "My brother's a Brighton fan, he loves you."
