Carlos Baleba changed the game as Albion beat Manchester City.

And Alan Shearer picked up on the substitute’s impact as he assessed the match for BBC TV’s Match Of The Day.

Baleba went on at half-time with the Seagulls trailing 1-0 and having been second best.

Former England striker Shearer said: “In the first half they were far too nice, showed them too much respect and stood off them and let them play far too much and that caused them all sorts of problems.

“This guy (Baleba) came on and this guy got amongst them.

“He showed energy, he showed aggression.

“I said in the first half they didn’t get close to them.

“He did! He got into them and he rattled them.

“Brighton were a completely different team in the second half and it all started because of him.

“He played on the front foot and all of a sudden, yes they got the couple of goals but they should have scored four or five.

“He was absolutely wonderful and he just changed the tempo of the game.

“He changed the performance of Brighton.

“Not only on the front foot but he did his bit defensively as well and he got wired in which no one really did in the first half.

“Give him space, and that’s what City did, and all of a sudden Brighton could play.”
