Aisha Masaka was stretchered off injured to cap a bad night for Albion in the WSL.

The Seagulls went down 5-0 to Arsenal before 22,467 fans at the Emirates.

Three quickfire goals midway through the first half put the match beyond the Seagulls.

Masaka, on her league debut, suffered a shoulder injury in what looked an innocuous stumble seconds from the end.

Beth Mead started the ball rolling as Arsenal dented the Seagulls’ fine start to the campaign.

The Gunners were ahead after just 13 minutes when England winger Mead cut inside and fired past keeper Sophie Baggaley and Caitlin Foord doubled their advantage nine minutes later when she converted Kim Little’s cross.

Frida Maanum made it three with just 25 minutes gone, curling a fine effort into the top corner.

The fourth goal did not arrive until 14 minutes from time when substitute Lina Hurtig headed home from close range before Alessia Russo beat Baggaley from the spot in stoppage time.

Maria Thorisdottir also went off injured for an Albion side, for whom Kiko Seike went close as they had a bright spell at 3-0 down.

Albion must now regroup ready for their second fixture of the season at the Amex.

They take on West Ham next Saturday (12.30pm).
