This should have been all about Evan Ferguson’s return to the goal trail.
The Irish striker’s unerring finish on 85 minutes sent Albion into a 2-0 lead over Wolves and calmed what had felt like a few nerves around the Amex.
It was his first goal in almost a year and was dispatched in classic Ferguson style after a thrilling run by Tariq Lamptey.
That should have been headline this evening.
But maybe it calmed nerves too much.
Wolves, who had looked intermittently dangerous in the second half, got back in it through Rayan Ait-Nouri at a corner.
Then, in a ridiculous late twist, Matheus Cunha grabbed a point late in added time after Albion had made a mess of their own counter attack.
The hosts had four men powering forward against one defender.
But Mats Wieffer gave the ball to the lone Wolf, Tommy Doyle, and the Dutchman had his head in his hands even as the visitors powered forward.
Much, much earlier we had seen that effective link between Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck again as the latter guided home his sixth goal of the season.
But that was almost forgotten by the end.
Albion shot themselves in the foot and this one will sting.
