Brighton and Hove have a national development champion in Alfie Furniss at 44kg.
He won two bouts in the finals weekend at Kettering, with a second-round stoppage in the semi-final on the first day and then a unanimous decision in the final against a well-skilled opponent in Lewis Barton from Phoenix gym.
Brighton had success with a bronze medal for Archie Millis in the 86kg category as well as Frankie Skerritt in the under 63kg female.
Furniss is the first male national champion Brighton and Hove have had within the last seven years with Tommy Welch being the last one back in 2017 and a female national champion in Fran Hennesy in 2022 Brighton and Hove have eight boxers in the next next national championships, the NAGBC, that start this Sunday at the King Alfred Leisure Centre.
They will have the youngest member of the ranks in Albert Brown, having just turned ten and will have his first skills bout.
Boxing starts at 1pm. Admission on the door is priced at £15 for adults and £5 for children.
Meanwhile, Welch is looking to have a good end to the year with some big fight news coming in the near future.
