Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth has suffered injury on loan.

The England under-21 international damaged his ankle in training on Friday with Hull City as the squad prepared to face Sunderland.

He is expected to miss three months and Tigers head coach Tim Walter said he could return to his parent club for treatment and rehab.

Rushworth was in demand for loan stints during the summer, with Sheffield United thought to be a possible destination.

He has not yet featured for Hull, a move which was intended to see him kick on from an impressive campaign at Swansea City last term.

Ivor Pandur, a Croatia under-21 international who signed this summer from Fortuna Sittard, has been Hull's first choice this season.

Rushworth’s build-up to this season was also hindered by injury during Albion’s pr-season trip to Tokyo, when Bart Verbruggen had not yet linked up with the squad.

He saw Killian Cahill enjoy the few minutes that were available in the two Tokyo friendlies as Jason Steele played for most of the two matches.

Cahill travelled with the Albion squad to Newcastle on Saturday.

Meanwhile Rushworth will hope to kick-start his season in the New Year.

Former Albion midfielder Steven Alzate has also suffered an injury with Hull.

Alzate, who joined recently as a free agent, will be out for about three weeks with a calf injury.
