Albion are excited about what Maisie Symonds can offer after she rivalled Cole Palmer for free-kick of the week.

But they will be cautious with the talented young midfielder who has suffered an injury niggle.

Four days after Palmer’s stunner at Stamford Bridge, Symonds did something similar for the Seagulls’ women in a 3-0 win at Birmingham.

They are back at Broadfield Stadium to face Aston Villa today (12.30pm).

Albion boss Dario Vidosic said: “Her talent is undeniable. She has just been probably a little unfortunate with a niggle that she has had and has slowed her down.

“We are just trying to look after it to help her build-up and be okay so we have her available.

“It was some goal – it probably challenges Cole for free-kick of the week!

“We know her talent, we know what she has got but we are trying to find the right times and build her body up so that we have her available for the full season.”

Symonds will benefit from the quality and experience around her in the Albion squad – but Vidosic believes that is the case for all players.

He said: “They have been terrific. On days when we have said we will take it a little bit easier, they are flying at full intensity.

“At times I have to reel them in but it is always really nice for a coach when they drive themselves.

“They set the standards for themselves. When we are below it, they are all quick to jump on top of each other and demand more so I’m blessed with a terrific group.”

Albion have fielded the same XI in both league games o date but Huerzeler said the Conti Cup win at Birmingham has given him decisions to make.

Nikita Parris and Jelena Cankovic are among those pushing to start.
