Jan Paul van Hecke said Albion needed to be more alert in the moment which cost them two points.
But the defender believes they still had time to beat Nottingham Forest – even after being pegged back by an equaliser.
Forest cut through to set up an open goal for Ramon Sosa in the 2-2 draw at the Amex.
Albion’s high line was cut apart in that incident but they should have score more goals of their own.
Van Hecke said: “We were unlucky to go down but we fight ourselves back to 2-1. “I felt in that moment (at end of the first half) we were strong.
“We had all the control, we get a few chances to score 3-1. The one time we are not alert enough, they score.
“We had enough time to score again, but we were way too rushed.
“We couldn’t score another one so we’re disappointed.
“Same as last week (the 0-0 against Ipswich), also disappointed.
“Now again we draw so we need to improve.”
Van Hecke is happy with the progress Albion have made under Fabian Huerzeler so far but disappointed with a tally of nine points, which has them seventh in the table.
He added: “There’s a good energy in the club.
“We are really hard to beat. Five games unbeaten.
“The manager is doing a great job.
“Today and last week, we should have more points and be higher up in the table.”
