Albion have told Nikita Parris how she can improve with the club after her deadline-day move.

The England forward could make her debut when the Seagulls open their WSL campaign at home to Everton today (12.30pm).

Parris’s arrival very late in the window was the last of a busy summer which has made plenty of WSL observers take notice of what is going on with the Seagulls, who have made 11 new signings.

She joins new players including fellow Lionesses star Fran Kirby, on-loan Barcelona striker Bruna Vilamala and Japan Olympic international Kiko Seike.

Notable departures include top scorer Elisabeth Terland, winger Katie Robinson and former captain Julia Zigiotti.

Parris, who hails from Toxteth and is a Liverpool fan, made the long move south from Manchester United, for whom she led the goal-scoring list in the league last season.

Dario Vidosic, set for his first game in charge of Albion, spoke to her before she agreed to make the move.

He told her that, if she signed up, it would not just be a case of her helping the club.

Vidosic told The Argus: “I spoke to her about the football and how we could help her as well.

“I think it is also important as a collective, what we want to achieve.

“But they are all individual players as well so they will want to improve.

“They want to have success as a team but they want to feel like they grow as well.

“I think that goes for anyone. Whenever you go into a workplace you want to feel you are getting better, you are improving, you are being challenged.

“That was sort of the message for her.

“We spoke a lot about the football side, what was our vision for her within that.

“Stuff that I have seen that we can improve.

“Stuff that she has which is really good and we want to keep letting her do.

“She loves football so it is always easy to have those talks and thankfully I was hopefully quite convincing and it helped.

“We are looking forward to seeing her play.”

Albion officially confirmed Parris’s headline-grabbing arrival five minutes before last Friday’s 11pm transfer cut-off. Vidosic said: “I had a chat with her on the phone and then the other processes between the two clubs for everything to be finalised and those technicalities that I don’t want to be involved in, to be honest.

“It was a late night that one, staying up and waiting.

“But we were quite positive it would all get done and I think we were thankful at the end we were able to bring in Nikita.

“She has been terrific ever since she has arrived.

“She was straight into the group and you would think she has been here from day one.”

Albion had a pre-season training camp in Spain and have played friendlies back here.

The new campaign feels like a fresh start for a set-up who, under interim head coach Mikey Harris, changed playing style in the second half of last season to something similar to that seen with the senior and under-21 men.

Vidosic said: “We have got a good mix of players who were here last season and new ones who have come in.

“But it is all relatively new so what I am asking for is a bit different, probably a little bit foreign to what they have been taught.

“That is what makes it take a little bit of time. They need to experience it because at the moment, at first they probably thought I was a little bit crazy with some of the looks I was given!

“Once they start to experience it and get success from it, now we are getting that acceleration of learning.

“They were always very open at the start but I always understood it would take time.

“I feel like we are growing. It’s a journey, I’ve told them.

“You can always get better and improve and that is what we are looking to do as a squad and also to develop as individuals as well.”
