Albion are heading back to the Theatre of Trees.

The club’s under-21s will visit AFC Varndeanians at Withdean Stadium in the Sussex Transport Senior Cup.

Details of the second-round tie have yet to be announced.

Varndeanians are now based at Withdean having previously played at Patcham Place.

They have progressed to the top flight of the Southern Combination League and are second bottom at the moment, albeit with games in hand on the teams just above them.

Thy reached the second round by winning 5-3 at Arundel.

Albion had a bye in the previous round and tend to use their younger under-21s in the county knockout.

The club played senior fixtures at Withdean between 1999 and 2011, their last fixture being a 3-2 defeat by Huddersfield having already clinched the League One title.

Matt Sparrow scored the Seagulls’ final goal at what was dubbed the Theatre of Trees.

Albion won three divisional titles, progressed to a successful play-off final and were twice relegated while playing at Withdean.

Most of the temporary stands which made their tenure possible were removed within days of the final Football League fixture.

Varndeanians tweeted: “Forty years ago the ‘Old V’s’ were playing in the Brighton League, at Patcham Place, and now look what’s gone and happened. Needless to say we are excited at the prospect of welcoming back @OfficialBHAFC to the Withdean in the Sussex Senior Cup.”
