Jan Paul van Hecke said he had no time for nerves as he made his senior Holland debut  in a 2-2 draw with Germany.

The Albion defender went on at half-time of the Nations League fixture at the Johann Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam.

He replaced Matthijs De Ligt at half-time with the Dutch trailing 2-1, Deniz Undav having scored the first German goal.

Van Hecke said: “If you can prepare yourself, it's also nice.

“But now I'm suddenly thrown in, then that's fine too. Then there's no time for tension and you can play freely.

“Ultimately it was a great match to debut and play.

“The tempo was quite high, it went up and down.

“They had chances, we had chances. It must have been great for the neutral spectators too, but it was great to play too.”

Bart Verbruggen was again in goal for the Oranje and head coach Ronald Koeman liked his long pass which led to a goal.

Albion striker Evan Ferguson went on as sub after 63 minutes for the Republic of Ireland as they lost 2-0 at home to Greece.

It was his longest appearance in a match since March.

Kaoru Mitoma was withdrawn after 73 minutes of Japan’s 5-0 win in Bahrain as the Samurai Blue took another big step towards the World Cup finals.

Simon Adingra played the first 75 minutes for Ivory Coast in a 2-0 win away to Chad in the race to qualify for next year’s AFCON finals in Morocco.

Carlos Baleba was again some observers’ choice as man of the match as Cameroon drew 0-0 with Zimbabwe.

Baleba was replaced near the end of added time and has produced two strong performances for his country in this international window.
