Ollie Robinson could make a name for himself on the global T20 franchise circuit.

That is the view of Tymal Mills after his fellow pace bowler helped secure a place at Vitality Blast Finals Day.

And the Sussex skipper joked he will take his 10% cut if that happens.

Robinson has enjoyed himself in the short format in a season which has seen him drop out of the England Test squad.

His two wickets and razor sharp run out of top-scorer Liam Livingstone helped skittle Lancashire for 114 in Wednesday’s quarter-final at Hove.

In particular, his first-ball dismissal of Phil Salt will go down in Hove folklore similar to Mills’ own second-ball strike against Chris Gayle a few years ago.

Mills said: “Ollie has been fantastic.

“He has got great skills - and great skill is great skill in T20 cricket, four-day cricket, 50-overs cricket.

“He puts the ball where he means to put it and I know that might sound a funny thing to say but, in T20 cricket, that is very important.

“If you can land five, six balls in the right area, you are going to cause problems.

“He is swinging the ball away, he is nipping it back in and he is making very difficult, especially when you are playing on a fresh wicket.

“I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect to have him much.

“But, once it looked like he was getting left out of the England team at the start of the summer, he obviously was with us the whole way.

“He has been thinking about the game, he has been helping me out in the field.

“I can’t speak highly enough of Ol.

“It has been a huge boost to have him.”

Robinson has so far taken 18 wickets in his 52 Blast overs this year at an average of 20.38.

His economy rate of 7.95 runs conceded per over is the best by any Sussex player who has bowled a significant number of deliveries.

The only man above him is Jofra Archer, whose 21 balls against Lancashire went for 20 runs.

Mills has made a success of specialising in the shortest formats and believes teams around the world will be aware of Robinson’s Blast season.

If they are not, he is happy to spread the word.

Mills said: “Hopefully he picks up some more T20 gigs off the back of it.

“I don’t know what is going to happen with him England-wise in red-ball cricket.

“He has shown he is a very, very skilful bowler.

“You are seeing in leagues around the world that teams pick new-ball bowlers.

“If you have a really specific skill, and really high skills, which he has, teams will take that.

“It is transferable around the world.

“Hopefully he picks up some gigs in the winter off the back of it and I will maybe take 10% off the top of it!

“He is in excellent shape. He has been in good shape in the winter and in the Championship.

“He has bowled a lot of overs and I think he is really in a good place at the moment.

“He is enjoying his cricket, clearly.

“He is really committed down here.

“He has signed a contract extension down here for next year.”

Reigning T20 champions Somerset joined the Finals Day line-up as Tom Banton smashed 75 off just 43 balls to set up victory over Northamptonshire.

Banton hit five sixes and six fours as Somerset racked up an intimidating 215-3 at a sold-out Wantage Road.

Banton was the dominant partner in a stand of 125 in 11.3 overs with Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who hit 63 off 43 balls with two fours and five sixes.

Surrey had already booked their Edgbaston place.
