Tymal Mills has confirmed Jofra Archer will not be at T20 Finals Day.
And the Sussex skipper says that ruling is “pretty stupid”.
Archer helped Sharks rout Lancashire by eight wickets at Hove in the Vitality Blast quarter-finals.
He will not be available at Edgbaston a week tomorrow due to England commitments.
Sharks skipper Mills said: “As far as I am aware, no England players will be available, which is pretty stupid to be honest.
“It is what it is. It will be the same for all the teams.
“But it is a real shame to lose a player like Jof.
“Whoever comes in for him will have big shoes to fill.”
Sussex came second in the highly competitive South Group without Archer but are always glad to see the World Cup winner in their colours.
Mills said: “I have been trying to get him to play for us the whole second half of the group stage.
“The ECB wouldn’t allow it so it was nice to get him back.
“It’s great for the crowd. It has been a few years since he has been here.
“And even if it is only for one game, what a huge difference.”
