Fabain Huerzeler says he is “thankful” for the backing of the club in the transfer market – but would not give away more on the situation with Billy Gilmour.

Huerzeler confirmed that there would be outgoings from Albion before the end of the window but kept his cards close to his chest when asked about the Scottish midfielder.

Gilmour has been linked with Napoli but any deal is yet to be confirmed ahead of deadline day on Friday.

Huerzeler said he and Brighton bosses will “decide what is best for the club” before moving forward.

When asked about Gilmour ahead of the Arsenal match, he said: “All the decisions we discuss together internally with Tony [Bloom], Paul [Barber] and David [Weir]. We do them together and we discuss sometimes of course but there are always arguments for both sides.

“We will decide what’s best for the club and then we will make the decisions and the public will see.”

On his side’s summer spending, Huerzeler added that the summer spending “shows the ambition from the club to make the next step together”.

He said this season was the “right moment” and Albion will try to “build something big together”.

Gilmour was linked with a deal with Napoli but the deal could be affected by Albon’s injury headache over Matt O’Riley.

Gilmour was reported to be expected in Naples for a medical earlier this week, however the midfielder’s future is still up in the air.

Huerzeler previously said that he expected Gilmour to be at the club in September.

The midfielder played a starring role in Albion’s late win against Manchester United but was rested on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup.
